It is not Legacy, but it is the one you show in your photos.

     It seems to work well.

There are some for sale, used.

The 6-12741 UP Intermodal crane was from 1989 as the YouTube video header shows, not 2014.

I don't think there's ever been one cataloged since the 6-22922 SP version back in 1998, but I could be mistaken.

The number one reason we were given at the LUG (Legacy Users Group) meeting for lack of Legacy operating cars and accessories.  Seems Legacy operators are still in the minority and with the LCS modules most everything can be made to operate via Legacy anyways.

I feel both MTH and Lionel command systems don't take advantage of at least in operating cars.

Found this thread and others similar by searching. I am about to get one of these, the Modesto & Empire Traction special version, and the photos are most helpful.  I will plan on using Super Streets straights for the yard, and I appreciate all the good information posted by Gunrunnerjohn and others about proper lubrication and modifications.  I have a goal of getting it on a module by February 2017.

Yes I would love to see a robust reissue of the MI-Jack intermodal crane, IMHO it needs the following upgrades:

  • accepts both scale and semi scale containers
  • can lift todays 1:48-1:50 plastic and die cast trailers
  • trailer lift arms move up and sideways[90 degrees]  when lifting containers
  • metal gears and gear boxes- NO PLASTIC GEARS!
  • use of electro- magnet or metal rods with a foam covering for lifting containers
  • smd LEd working spotlights on top
  • Flashing led warning lights
  • diesel sound
