Curious thing I noticed to day, I have 3 Lionel Gevo Hybrids and all three have the same number board burned out, firemans side, has anybody else had this issue? I will have to check my UP es44's and see if they have the same problem

Matt,
I'm just curious. What did Lionel tell you? Did their "Super Wiz" offer any suggestions? I wonder if any of the former TAS Techs have the solution.(they probably do) They're out there. Maybe they will read this and give you the correct fix.
Matt, I have These engines and will check them to see if the number board lights are out.
I have not turned them on much, so run time is like fifteen minutes to half an hour. They are on the shelf. Let us know how you remedy this situation. Happy Railroading.
I have the VL version as well. Don't have this problem but I have noticed others (smoke fan noise and binding of the drive mechanism) that I have concluded come from infrequent running. Seems very odd that you've got the very same problem on three engines, which suggests some problem that has arisen from their use/handling rather than a parts/manufacturing/control system defect.
I think that the reference above to the contacts on the roof panels is good advice. The panels only seat properly one way and are not that easy to put back. They can also come loose just from moving the engine even if you don't take them off. So I'd start by checking them. Also I'd try a reset just in case the control system has a glitch.
I had one that had bad interior lights witch is the same pcb that has the number boards.
You said you had one that works still .. Take that roof off that one and try it on one of the others .. This will tell you if it's in the pcbs or the contacts. A lot of the time the contacts get dirty and need cleaned or need adjusted..
Yeah, my UP es44's have working number boards. I just thought it was weird. And one of my CP ones has one truck not running, may require surgery to fix. I hardly ever run them and last weeken was the first time i lashed em all up since 2012
Bucks and it just requires removing the roof and a few screws .. I try cleaning it first.
Yeah its that light board in the roof and I need three of them plus Lionels ever generous shipping charges its gonna be $51 to fix 3 20 cent LED's
have you contacted Lionel I am sure they would adjust the shipping charges

I was in exactly that situation recently - a CP that had stayed on the shelf had a jammed drive mechanism. The treatment for this, which is not really difficult, is described here:

The trucks do twist off so you don't have to get inside the body shell. Reconnecting the wiring from the truck is a bit fiddly but just requires patience.
Yea word to the wise if you don't run these you need to make sure they roll. If there locked up you can hurt the motor
I had the truck off twice and I did that, still wouldnt run the front truck. I figured it required a bit more attention than I was willing to give it at the time. I'll fix it, ive been known to fix a train or two from time to time.
