Does anyone know if it is possible to successfully lashup and actually run a combination of Lionel Legacy engines such as a Legacy Berk and a Legacy GP9?

I tried this and I'm seeing the geep will quickly outpace the Berk starting about the 35th speed step. I am a novice on the legacy system, and have been told that the new system is nothing like the old TMCC days and all engines play well together, so I'm guessing I'm doing something wrong.

Ok, just wanted to make sure I wasn't doing something incorrectly. I do remember the days of the early odyssey and I ended up trashing some diesel power trucks from engines fighting each other during MU consists.

I just recently got back into the Lionel end of it after being a die hard MTH person. I must say I'm very impressed by what I'm seeing in the Lionel product.

Thanks for the help.

To expand on what Marty said. Legacy locos are all equipped with back-driveable gears which allows the slower locomotive to coast.

The back drivable gears are evident because a legacy loco ( with a bit of pressure) can be pushed by hand with the power off and the drive wheels will turn relatively easy.

On TMCC locos the gears essentially "lock" the axles when the motor is not turning.
