I believe the Erie-Lackawanna PA-1 is the same as the later 6-18952 Santa Fe and 6-18953 New York Central PA-1s catalogued around 2000. If so the screws that hold the shell to the frame are #6-32 x 3/4" Phillips flat head machine screws. If you have a sample you can verify the size and threads with a thread checking gauge.

i believe you are correct on the engines. I stumbled across a couple Erie dummies with no screws. I had the ATSF and NYC  but since sold. I had them apart and remember the weird screws. I will take your great info and get to searching. I have several local well supplied hardware outlets. Thanks again for the information.
