looking for suggestions on mounting a AC Commander in a single 0r dual post war vertical motor f3. I assume remove the battery bracket!. But, can mounting be done utilizing current holes in the frame. Pictures anyone.

I seriously doubt you'll end up using existing holes, but shouldn't be a major issue. Here's the AC Commander and a RailSounds motherboard with the audio and P/S boards mounted. This was my upgrade of the Phantom locomotive to dual motors, they should be positioned about like most dual-motored PW engines. I do believe the Phantom is a bit wider than many.

I knew I couldn't use the existing holes. hey you never know. I'm thinking about cutting a spare battery bracket and mounting it there. I know it won't fit in the battery cradle? So, thanks for the input. Anyone else.
John that is very clean install, looks like it fits just right.
Shawn, I mounted my command board to a L shaped bracket made from aluminum and mounted the bracket to the cavity of the fuel tank....

Marty, adding the second motor and the AC Commander to the Phantom locomotive turned a mediocre runner that couldn't pull it's own four cars around a level layout to a locomotive that will pull twenty scale boxcars up the 2% grade and all around. The AC Commander greatly increased low speed control, it's like a totally different locomotive now.

I was thinking of a flat piece of aluminum mounted to the battery bracket holes.

The Phantom is a later locomotive that had no battery box or hole. It was just a flat metal plate. Here's the plate with the second motor mounting plate installed from my Phantom upgrade thread. You can see where things are attached.

I cut some plates & used the double stick tape to mount the board. The Program switch goes underneath the plate & I use the Battery Plate Cover to access it the switch.

The Cruise Commander should be mounted with a screw to the frame to conduct heat from the heatsink to the frame.

Ok, Started to upgrade a set of Santa Fe conventional classics after some advise by fellow members. As the previous poster mentioned the older battery well. Now, replaced by a speaker in the frame casting is cover by a die cast plate. It is then attached to the body using 4 screws.
I just ordered 3 of these plates from lionel. It appears that they will work in upgrading older engines with the battery hole in the casting. Plus, I will install one in the dummy A. It will give me a place to mount the circuit board for the coupler and rear light. It will also allow the option of moving the ERR sound board to the rear unit....
The area were the e unit is my need to be slightly cut away.
