HELP!!!!!

Ive worked on postwar trains for sometime now and have that down pretty well. Have even attacked some pre war O gauge.

BUT, this has me baffled. Have a Lionel #8 standard gauge with a super motor. wiring was crispy to say the least. put the test leads to it and can at least get the motor turning. But I don't want to install the wheels until I can get it running well. don't know where

to attach the center pick up wire. and that reverse unti has me very confused.

any help is appreciated. Thanks

Just a word of caution with the CRC. I Used the contact cleaner doing a prewar motor from a 158 and had the bright idea of applying the stuff with the motor running. The sparks started the stuff on fire when I was spaying. It is funny after the fact and fortunately nothing was destroyed except for my pride

Poppi, are you doing a complete rebuilt (repaint)? Could you post pictures?

You could bypass the switch if you just want to see if it runs by connecting one of the brush sires to ti field wire and applying voltage from the frame ground to the other brush wire or pickup. I m also in the process of rebuilding a #8 standard land had the wheels off and the frame apart to install new pick-up/rollers.

the motor runs, im just trying to find where to attached the center pick up. seems like every time I think ive figured it out and try attaching it, it just shorts out. as soon as I remove the wire from the center pick up, the motor runs fine.

ALso as a side note, How in the world do you replace brushes on this little bear!! that is a job in itself.

Not the expert on this just did it once (last week) and my wheels were off and the motor side cover was off.
The brush assembly is held in with a screw, if you remove the screw you should be able to slide it out from the bottom.You may have to push the brushes in while puling the assembly out. Just be careful not to damage the armature.
Once you have it out and decide to replace the wires and brushes, be careful as when you pull the screws off the spring will pop out (could get lost I did not know this but found the spring). You may want to see if your collector is shorted out. I would use a multi meter for this. The collector wire may be pinched or laying on the axle with the insulation worn off.

Maybe someone would have a better idea on removing the brush assembly and instaling it back in.
