There is also a conventional version that has the modular connector. The upgrade is to unplug the original electronics and drop in the a TMCC modular board.

I have a Legacy E6 Steamer with the Steam Whistle Effect that works perfect. It's been professionally equipped with new smoke units, a tether wire from the tender to the locomotive for constant power. This engine is known for not working well, so, I had one of the best train repairmen fix it. If interested,ms end me an email. It's practicall brand new.
