I stand corrected on the origin of Lionel's long trailer!

The PS-4 with the Pups was one of my favorites of all the cars we did.

Todd, If you still have contacts with Lionel, ask them to start using the Weaver Trailers. It will make the 35-45 ft single trailer on flats more appealing to Weaver collectors as well as Lionel collectors. Lionel PS-4s are tops. The Lionel 40 ft trailers, not so much. IMO

While its been confirmed the Lionel has the tooling for the Weaver TOFCs, it appears they are not using the Weaver Trailers on the Lionel flats.  Pete

Pete, If Lionel would offer 89' piggyback flat cars with 35' trailers from Weaver's molds and 40' trailers from Lionel molds the modeler could mix and match.   John

Round 2, try this again.  PS-4 flatcar with Trailers list with corrections as indicated by Mister W. The 58251 LCCA Maine Central flat isn't on the list, as packaged it contains just one trailer.  The second trailer for the car is a separate item (58253).

Thanks for the list. My MEC flat came with two trailers.

Are you the original owner?  And if so, did you get this at the LCCA convention?  Or perhaps eBay?  I thought the flatcar came originally packaged with only ONE trailer, and the second trailer was available at one of the convention's banquets that same year.  Occasionally, the LCCA offers these kinds of items at their York booth as well.

Regarding the 58251 LCCA car, I didn't attend the convention but did purchase one directly from the LCCA. The PS-4 flat did come with just one trailer, believe the separate 115th trailer was given to those who attended the Lionel seminar. If I recall correctly, both the 58251 and 58253 came packaged in a separate larger box. Found a photo online of the 2 boxes.

Attached list of Lionel PS-4 flat w/ trailers, should be fairly complete.

I know this is an older post -  just wanted to say thank you for the list!  Very helpful.  I'm now on the hunt several of these!

Does anyone have a similar list of the 35' Weaver cars?  I know there were several limited runs like Santa Fe and M&STL.  I think the St. Louis Club (I'm in St. Louis and these do pop up at Train stores) produced a number of these that I might find locally.

Here's one that you don't see very often.  NYC New York Central Fast Freight in SILVER.  They only made 23 of these.

Thanks for posting this. I was curious how many of these were made. Were these the banquet cars for the TCA National a few years ago?

Pete

Pete,

No, these were not banquet cars. They were made as gifts for the hardest working convention volunteers.

I too fell in love with the Weaver TOFCs and also the 35' trailers on 40' flats they had in their last catalog which were never produced.  I had planned on getting one of each.  Can't recall each one they had in that catalog but one would have been a Mayflower trailer on a 40' flat of some road I can't recall either.  Help me out, someone, please?

I thought that Lionel (or any of the other vultures, er, manufacturers) might have acquired the tooling to produce the 40' pigs from Weaver and could have added those to their line.  They would have looked tremendous mixed in with other tofcs of all varieties.

They have and will produce the cars for next years TCA National. They could become part of their Lionscale Line. Just don't expect them to sell for what Weaver sold them for.

Only Pecos River Brass from the 1980's brought in a scale 40' trailer. Quality Craft had a 40' kit.

The KLine "40ft" is actually a 38' trailer.

Lionel recently released 40' is smaller than k-Line at 37 1/2 ft.

The MTH trailer has too modern bogies on them.

Weaver trailers are a scale 35'... Perhaps too close to Lionel's"40 ft" that modelers will see the issue.

Sorry I confused with my previous post.  I meant to say that the proposed Weaver 40' piggyback flatcars with a new assortment of their 35' trailers would have been a nice addition to a train of Lionel's piggyback cars and the already produced Weaver 50' cars with 35' trailers.  I now understand that Lionel will be offering those 40' cars & trailers that didn't show up because Weaver closed down before that could happen.  Better late than never.  I'm looking forward to picking some of those up.
