Never thought of a problem with product vs description on box, catalog, and Lionels online description. One says interior lights, yet in removing shell no lighting setup for cab. Says opening doors, none. Several other misleading, but no problem. I do like interior cab light when running at night though.

This is for Model 6-18598 NYC. My main question is, did these come with cab lighting?

Hello, Josef.

I have two of these units (love them) and I do remember them having opening cab doors; on the fireman's side on the short hood, and the engineer's side on the long hood.

Attached are both the wiring diagram and parts diagram for these wonderful sounding units.

Unfortunately, I don't remember them having cab lights (although the H16-44s do).

Thanks!  And good luck...

josef,

I ran my PRR RS11 at the club last night. There is a cab light but it is only on while the engine is at rest. Once you move the engine in forward or reverse the cab light goes out. This makes sense just as you do not drive your car at night with the interior light on, makes it hard to look out the window.

I did not check the doors. I would not fit through them anyway.....must of put on a few pounds.

This engine has great break sounds when running in high mo.

That's a feature of all Legacy-equipped engines to make the engines more realistic. In the real world, engine cabs don't have interior lights on for night operations, for obvious reasons. It may be that just the Legacy versions of the RS11 have the cab light to facilitate the Legacy feature, whereas the earlier TMCC versions (like the 18598 NYC) don't have cab lights.

For me, having no light in the cab on the TMCC versions is no big deal, and opening doors is pretty much a useless feature anyway, IMHO. I always cover the interior lights on engines anyway, because they're almost always too bright, and not realistic. Josef, maybe you can console yourself knowing that your engine is more realistic without the cab light!

LOL, Its not that, but that why are features listed on box, but don't have. More curious then dissapointed.

I run my Legacy PRR RS11 with a dummy from the last TMCC release of the RS11s. The ride height of the dummy is a little high but not by much. I do like the way they look together. Every time I run the Legacy RS11 I am more impressed, sounds are terrific, smokes great just like a Alco and pulls like a mule. I got mine from a forum member for what I considered a steal.
