I have a Lionel ten-wheeler from about 10 years ago.  It is Chicago and Northwestern but it's lettered for the "Omaha Road" the CStPM&O, which was part of the Northwestern system.

The engine is different than the #1385, most noticeably in that the headlight is mounted at the top of the boiler front.   The 1385 is located in the center.  There are lots of other differences, too, but I've been using it to pull the 60' series of passenger cars from Atlas, which are correct models of those cars.  The engine has TMCC, a great sounding whistle and a good amount of detail.  Pulls as many of those "shorty"cars as I want it to, up 2% grades without complaints.

When did Lionel announce a new ten-wheeler?  I'll be happy when their recently announced Milwaukee Road heavy Mikado, listed in the 2015 "Signature" catalog, finally arrives.  Been waiting for that one for about three years.

The latest 10 wheelers, were listed in Vol. 2 2014 catalog. Although the C&NW 1385 is not like the real R-1, it will have to do. Something magical about the number 1385, if you have ever seen her in action! Too bad the whistle on the model couldn't be the real 1385's whistle.

No need to blow in the whistle. We have quite a bit of video and audio of 1385, before she came out of service in 1998. But how to get Lionel to use it would be a good question.

Would be neat to have the option though. Actually all the sound would have been great!!!
