I just saw in the preorder area from Legacy Station that Lionel is doing Norfolk Southern SD60E's. They are doing all three of the special units (Veterans #6920, Go Rail #6963, and First Responders 911) as well as two normal one (6900 and 6916).
I don't know how anyone else feels about this...but I personally am VERY excited! I love the SD60E and think it's one of my favorite rebuilt locomotives.

These engines will be offered in the Lionel 2015 Vol II catalog.

So glad to see the SD60E's.  I've been waiting for these to head up a string of the LCCA NS PS-1 boxcars and Weaver TOFC's w/red-cross.  I always said the first importer to produce these would get my orders.  Thank you for listening, Lionel.

Also appears our early pricing thoughts earlier this morning for these and other items were spot on.

What is the pricing for these units?

That is good news.  Lionel or MTH needs to do a CSX SD40-3 next.

YES ON #9-1-1!!!   Only question I have is, will the horn sound on #6920 Honoring Our Veterans have the real recording of it's horn since the horn on 6920 is a Ex. N&W Leslie RS5T and #9-1-1 is a Raised Letter K5LA. No big deal, but thought I would mention that. But I do like 6920 also, but I love #9-1-1 / 911. I even got to see it back in July of this year. My pictures are below.

Yes... and what's done is done.  These kinds of things happen in life.  It's certainly not the end of the world.

I'm actually kind of surprised Lionel hasn't just taken their lumps and released the catalog. Like leaked movie trailers which then are officially released sooner than originally slated. With the suspense gone and many of us seeing the list, what's there to gain by waiting at this point?

So the big question.... "All new tooling" but is this going to roll on the TMCC era underframe? The O36 rating leads me to think yes. Why not tool it up with the independent pilot so it matches the ES44s? Having already been burned once on a BTO not being what the catalog said, I'm not inclined to gamble with $550 to hope they get it right.

Steve, whether by design or accident... they pretty much have as far as individual product info -- just not the catalog in it's bound layout form.

If you go to lionel.com and search for keywords like "veterans", "sd60", "fef", "heisler", "disconnect", etc... IT'S ALL THERE (except pricing).

Certainly true. Just easier to find everything (and remember everything from a certain preorder page) in a catalog. Those 8 door hi-cubes are nice looking as well. Nice paint on the SP.

Aside from a few unanticipated minutes earlier this morning (Wednesday), I don't think Lionel has yet to officially post the full catalog online.  HOWEVER, it appears the IT folks have populated the Lionel website with product info from the new catalog.  So if you want product info on something you've heard is in the new catalog, you can do a keyword search on lionel.com... and voila!!!  Not sure if that's what Lionel intended, but that's what's there now.

That is something I'd like to see. The pilot for the ES44 could work on this and look great. It will also be interesting if they will install the intercooler fans on the top of the units (in front of the smoke stack).
As someone else said on here, only time will tell.

This will mark the very first SD60E to be built as a production model.

I'll be ordering both.  You're right...this is huge news.  Many here have been requesting these be made by one of the manufacturers.  These are going to sell well.

What's bad, and kind of funny, is that I've seen people spamming MTH's facebook page saying "LOOK WHAT LIONEL IS DOING! YOU NEED TO GET ON THE BALL!!"
Haha. Oh well.
I'll take the Lionel ones because I don't have DCS right now. Even if they will cost me a small fortune.

You can ask this guy to scale this up to O:

This is what has held us back from Lionel preorders, the details which make an engine may or may not be in their produced units. We can live with small issues, but headlights in the wrong place, etc., make committing large sums sight unseen not worth the risk.

Going just by the stock pictures on their website, the model is totally wrong. It uses the hood for their SD70MAC with the SD60E cab. The actual SD60E's are entirely unique, and not even the exact tooling for an SD60 can be used since NS has made so many modifications to them. Now, that's just the online picture which reflects nothing of the actual model. *Hopefully*, they just used the graphic of the SD70MAC from the previous catalog and reskinned the picture. In any case, as others have stated, only time will tell how these actually look. I sure do hope that they lived up to the new standard they set with the SD40 in the last catalog.

Gotta echo Rich's comment here.  Since this is the 3-rail O-Gauge forum, you've gotta expect most folks aren't gonna worry to much about the nitty gritty details... and I include myself in that bunch of toy train enthusiasts.  Heck, I would have been happy if Lionel or MTH produced the Veterans and First-Responders paint scheme on a regular SD-60 or even the SD-70MAC.  But I'm not complaining that Lionel is taking a stab at these paint schemes on the SD-60E.

I always said the importer who produces these units first would have a license to print money, and I'm gonna bet that Lionel will sell a TON of these.  I wouldn't at all be surprised if these will be Lionel's best-selling BTO locomotives to date.  And these may even surpass the number of VL Big Boys Lionel imported!!!

David

I have to agree with you David, they are going to sell a ton of these units. I do like the Veterans but once I saw the 9-1-1 unit I fell in love with it. Since I'm still a FF with 48+ years of volunteer service and I had 40+ years as a career FF before I retired, just added to it. And I also said that the first one to bring it out was getting my order.

It could have possibly been, maybe only my 2nd Premier locomotive. I have no Premier locomotives at this time. Earlier this year I placed a order in for my 1st Premier locomotive which is in the CSX Safety Train Set that is in their 2016 Vol 2 catalog.

But I will be getting both the Veterans and 2 of the 9-1-1's which will be going to both of my daughters. Thank you Lionel.
