Lionel Smithsonian NYC Dreyfuss Hudsons

I believe that the passenger sets were only made in 2 rail. All of the information you are looking for is already on the OGR forum. I do not remember what the title is but there is already a very detailed thread on OGR all about the Lionel Smithsonian hudsons. It had pictures of the original brochures and would no doubt be able to answer any questions you may have. Try searching "Lionel Smithsonian" and you may find it.

Fine Arts Models didn't MAKE anything. Fine Arts Models was the Importer. The models were made in Korea (not sure who the exact builder was).

Pretty much the same as most everything else train wise these days, a lot of it coming from China.

I am not sure who the builder was of the Smithsonian Dreyfuss Hudsons were but Sun Jin Models of Korea built the Kohs o scale J-3a Hudsons. Sun Jin was one of the premiere builders in Korea. I am guessing they built the Smithsonian models as well.

The Williams Masterpiece brass Century Hudson and the Smithsonian version ( I have both - I got one of the Smithsonians in a semi-basket case condition; future project....sigh) sure seem to have most of the same construction fingerprints. Just a thought.

Rarified air for sure. There was also a Smithsonian German BR-50 steam locomotive produced with one version having a CORRECT, though controversial, swastika on the side of the cab.

The Smithsonian has the pedigree but the Williams Masterpiece Dreyfuss is identical save the motor and electronics. Here is their Masterpiece J3a shell on a repainted Dreyfuss chassis. I considered turning this into a Super Hudson and may still if I can find a proper Selkirk front.

D, I also have a basket Dreyfuss if you need any body parts. Pretty beat up but who knows.

I have the Williams Masterpiece BS03 J3a Hudson 5430. I also have the Lionel Smithsonian 3 rail Dreyfuss Hudson. They compliment each other perfectly.

Need a lead on purchasing a O scale 2 rail Williams Masterpiece Dreyfuss Hudson.

Not concerned about outdated electronics but hopefully in good to excellent overall condition.

Original Williams box preferable.

Did Williams ever make 2 rail engines? There have been and there may be some now on the auction sites, Smithsonian 2 rail Chassis. Those would mate right up with a Williams shell which typically sell for much less than a Smithsonian.

I was fortunate to win at the Lionel Archive auction the prototypes for the Westchester and Manhattan cars with boxes and authenticated by the Smithsonian..Something special for an NYC fan.
