Lionel TMCC Diesel Worm Gear Access for Grease

Hey Rick,

These are not fun to take apart, you have to take the cover plate off to properly grease the worm drive. this includes the center pick up screws. 

Separating the motor from the truck is another great adventure....

Scratch that, these might not have a worm....odd all i see is the legacy version in the parts list...

 Thanks, but that looks like a legacy version J daddy, those are liondrive trucks in that parts photo.

Rick - do you have a PN for the FA-2? I am almost sure these trucks are like the older F3 versions that are worm driven....

found it... yes these are the worm drives... notice screw 58 has to come out and...66's and 64's its the no. 59's that are a real pain to get to... to remove the motor.

BTW, I just took a set of these apart. It was apparent that one motor was getting hot vs. the other. I re-greased everything. Root cause was the motor itself was binding. Of course it was the motor with the magnet and odyssey board... number 35...

So then just removing 58, the screw in my photo will not allow the truck to come down off of the worm?

I don't want to disassemble the whole truck if I don't have to. I notice theres a rectangle opening above the driven axle. Poking in there yield a bit of factory grease. I may just shoot red in tacky down in there.

Rick, if these are like the F3 trucks you do have to take them apart from above. A real PITA compared with say a Williams truck where that one screw from below allows the motor to come off.

you should be able to drop the frame cover by removing the 58's and the 66's

took me 1 hour to figure the first one out and I had to phone a friend. 

That did it, thanks J Daddy. It spilt the truck and exposed the axle gear so I could shoot some red n tacky in there.

Good news.... yeah the next step of removing the truck will test your sanity.

Sadly, as others have said, many of that vintage trucks required you to remove screws through the little wiring slots as well as the motor mount screw to drop the truck.  The good news is that once you've done it a few times, it gets easier.
