The Lionel Trackmobile is a nice looking little engine but it will only pull a few cars.
There is an article in the Oct Trains Mag on the real Trackmobile. That engine will pull up to 60 cars.
The couplers lift the front and rear cars about an inch off the rails and shift up to
90000 pounds to the Trackmobile to add traction.
Maybe Lionel could replace traction tires with lifting couplers.

Even if Big L could do that for under a grand, it still doesn't take into account the ability of the small drive motor (and electronics...)to supply more oomph before it goes up in smoke.....
With the tiny electronics board, I wouldn't try to pull more than a few cars with it. If you have really free rolling cars like the new PFE reefers, it'll pull at least a half a dozen. OTOH, it struggles to pull three PW cars as they have higher rolling resistance.
Yes, these little Trackmoblies are really fun to run in our Yard Areas....They are simply amazing and it would be nice if they had crew talk and tower com, but, the price is right for the play value....great thread...Its fun to pick up a car on a sidling and add it to a train....WOW. Happy Railroading.
