Just recently I purchased the first MTH LIRR RDC set off ebay. This has the "East Ender" logo in red on the doors.  Also a dashing dan and red circle with yellow number.   does anyone have any pics showing the 3121 East Ender?  Dave Keller archives states this car had the logo in 1960 but shows no picture. Any info would greatly be appreciated

Just looked up the set on MTH site. In that case, rub off logos with Mr. Clean Magic Eraser. I never liked the RK MTH RDC's. Lionel's are the same length but look longer I guess due to the windows?

Silver - Don't know until you try removing one. I converted all of RMT Walters roads to CNJ without any problems. If silver looks worn, mask and hit the area with a quick one time pass using silver spray. Apply clear satin, Armorall or pledge to the area to match MTH satin finish. Chances are you wont have to do that unless you get carried away applying the process.

The paint scheme is a pastiche. The circles with numbers were an attempt at getting better publicity after reorganizing after a major accident. New equipment had a red background with a yellow number, rebuilt a yellow background with a red number. The RDC-2 was the first new piece of equipment so its numbered 1. The Dashing Dan logos are later.

Note that the East Ender is pulling a ping-pong conventional coach, apparently something Budd did not encourage. Later in life the pair of RDCs pulled an MU rpo from Babylon to Patchogue to keep the mail contract. Unfortunately few photos exist of this operation.

Thanks for the info Scotie!  The Railking "East Ender" on the doors look correct and in red. The pics enclosed look black as the original pic of LIRR 3121. I don't know if the script was realyy red on the doors of the real rdc or something MTH made up. But the dans and circle number was not on the original East Ender RDC as evident in the pics-l1600s-l1600 [1)s-l1600 [2)LIRR3121atEasthamptonLate1950_s

As with many MTH cookie cutter incorrect items, they just stick a name on them and call it a day. The MTH BUDDS really don’t resemble the common RDC’s. They lack the side number lighted ovals, non-recessed front doors and other details. Plus they sit too high.

Guess there’s no demand for a true O Premier version these days? On the other hand, you can rule out 85’ foot cars for 3r also. Just not practical for most operators.

There were only two cars , 3101(#1) & 3121(#2) That’s about as good as it gets in compressed O.

Didn't 3rd Rail just do scale RDC's a while back?
