I'm looking for a diesel engine that has forward-neutral-reverse as well as a whistle.  I want to stay away from engines that have a start-up or shut-down process.  Ease of operation is key.  I recently picked up an RMT Bang and it really fit the bill.  I'm just looking for variety.  Any suggestions new or used would be appreciated.

You could probably pick up a WBB gp38-2 for around $100.  That would fit your criteria.

I do think Williams has Sound.  True Blast Whistle/Horn and Bell.  But as desired, no chuff/diesel roar and no battery required.  Williams is the best bet for a more traditional O-27/O engine with the requested features.  G

Most Williams engines in their diesel line-up do have horns or sound units.

Some of the later production diesels, before the Bachmann buyout, may not have a horn.

The Crown Edition diesels have "Station Sounds" by QSI installed, has a station leaving announcement and horn/bell feature.

The Williams diesels do not have smoke.

If you buy a used Williams be sure it runs good before you purchase it.

Some of the internet retailers still have the older Williams before Bachmann and that is what I would buy, you will get a better deal(price wise) on the engine then a new Williams by Bachmann.

Many basic/simple locomotive 0 gauge diesels do exist. Cost is anywhere between $100 to $400 dollars. It really depends on many factors. Me.....I would go to EBay and look first. Then try some of the shows. If that doesn't pan out, I would venture into the local hobby shop and see if they have taken anything in on trade. Sometimes they do and one never knows what they may find.

Williams, as one member stated, is as basic as one can get these days. Anything more and you mind as well invest in a fully functional digital locomotive with all the bells and whistles. Happy hunting
