Hello All

CUT P1a 003CUT P1a 006CUT P1a 007CUT P1a 009Recently I bought a new engine that is need of restoration. It is a Cleveland Union Terminal P1a Electric Locomotive, built by Sunset Models in the 1990’s. If this were a steam engine it would have the same wheel arrangement as a Challenger (4-6-6-4). It does run pretty well and I know the previous owner spent hours working on it, but a lot of the cold solder joints have let go and all the screws holding it together were missing when I received it. Since I like the engine I am going to spend the time required to restore it.

The most noticeable damage is that one of the 2 pantographs has a missing side frame. Making a new one is a problem because there are several bearings that need to be drilled into the built up replacement so the pan can go up and down. This requires precision work that I am not ready to tackle.

I have two alternatives:

1. Replace both pans with new ones that are more or less the same size. The problem is that I would have to mount them without butchering the roof of the car body

2. Find a new C.U.T. P1a pan that came from a scrapped or heavily damaged model. That is assuming that new ones are not available.

I prefer the second alternative, but I am ready to go with #1 if necessary. So, any help along these lines would be greatly appreciated. Above are several photos to help illustrate the situation.
