I am sorry to be of no help with a kit.

However, your photos brought back memories of a 1959 family trip to the San Joaquin Valley.  (I was 12.)  We stopped at the Mammoth Orange Stand for lunch, and while we were there, the San Joaquin Daylight sped past on the opposite side of Highway 99, with all cars still in Daylight colors and a 4-unit A-B-B-A set of Black Widow FP7A's and F7B's on the point.  What a fond memory.  Thanks.

Perhaps someone would know? I am interested in modeling one of these on my Tidewater Southern layout. I have been told there was at one time a kit produced for these juice stands! Thanks for any help offered? - Chris

Giant Orange Stands

You could always use one of the Styrofoam balls from Hobby Lobby, Michael's, etc. and hollow it out.

Thanks! I was considering starting with foam coating it so it could pull a mold off of it. I am going for the general look and not necessarily an exactly dimensioned model. I have seen one of the kits on my friend Mike's layout in Marysville, but I am assuming not many of them were made, and am also assuming it was a long time ago...

OMG!.....now THERE's a scratchbuilder's dream project, if ever there was one!.......especially the derelict-in-the-weeds version!

I predict postable results from our creative forumites within a few days/weeks!

Absolutely my first reaction...go scratch build one...super easy building to start with if you have not tried scratch building before. Once you see how scratch building opens up the hobby you will no longer be confined to what's available in a kit...a wonderful awakening actually. Go try...you have little to loose.

Good Luck

Thanks Bob!

I may try that. Sounds like a fun project!

They used to sell lemon juice in "lemon-shaped" bottles at various grocery stores. The shape was a little rounder than a lemon, but the size would be about right for a giant orange (or lemon for a lemonade/general citrus stand). Haven't seen one in some time, but they might be out there. The other alternative would be to make a mold of an orange and cast one from resin. Just a thought. I remember those stands when I was a kid.

Re the 'orange' feature...  You might try some of the crafty places....Hobby Lobby, Jo Ann's, Michaels,...even Pier One...for artificial fruits.  About a 3-4" dia. hollow orange would be a dandy start for a 1:48 version!  I distinctly remember my folks having a bowl of hollow plastic bananas, oranges, pears, peaches, apples, etc.  on the front porch table in the summer time when I was a kid.   I would imagine there's plenty of fake stuff to be had nowadays.....besides the daily news!!!

See?  That HO model proves what a great scratch opportunity is out there!

Now that's a great idea.
