Found the TCA site then to York.  Clicked on the Orange and Purple hall maps.  Gave me pause, way larger than I imagined. No wonder people say they spend most time there.  Looking at bothe halls, what is primary difference(s) if any?

Then found Clems York Primer, all 75 pages of it which I have printed off (thank goodness for recycled paper) and will review it to get a sense of whats-what, so I am not wasting time.

Well hope to see some of you, maybe I'll put on badge that says rrman, so you can say "Ah ha there goes that troublemaker!"

So I am clear are those walkie talkies allowed in the halls or not to keep in contact with spouse for THE FIND?  I know no cameras for sure except certain places.

Don't just visit the orange & purple halls, be sure to get around to all the halls. There are some OGR people that only visit the orange & purple. They are missing a lot, believe me.

I used to be one of those people - mostly because the first few times I came to York I could only come for the day on Thursday.   The first time I stayed multiple days was when the last tour of Tony Lash's layout was held and I finally went to all the halls.   Eddie it right!   Now I start all my York visits in the Red Hall and sometimes only get to the Orange Hall for only an hour on Thursday before heading over to the forum dinner.   Those few times since than when I've only been able to make it for one day I still start in the Red Hall.   Lots of bargains and neat finds to be made even if you are primarily into the modern stuff as I am.

I am pumped. Haven't been in a couple years due to work. My order son and I are making a day trip (We only live 2 hours away) on Friday. Hopefully in April we can go for a couple days.

I'm looking forward to mostly spending the day talking trains and hanging with my kid. I hope to see some of you there.

RRMan, the ED did away with the no camera rule. Pictures are now allowed. The first time I attended after they got rid of the rule I took some pictures and posted them here. Last few Yorks I was just too darn busy to take pictures.

True, but only for the Dealer Halls.  Photography is still not permitted in Member Halls.

Dave, thanks for the correction. You're right. I forgot about. Also I believe the Hall that only has a modular layout in it you can now take pictures of that too. I did and no one said anything.

You're welcome.

You are correct on modular layouts, photos are allowed there as well, even in the White Hall, it's just that we need to keep the photography to the layout area and not members' tables.

The Black Hall while still technically called a Member Hall has no sales tables, just the layout, so that is a little more straight forward.

Anyone know why "still pictures" are OK, but not video? Video would be nice for the modular layouts.

That part is a mystery to me.  It's also essentially impossible to tell the difference these days with most digital cameras being able to take video as well.

I suppose very long recording might be obvious, but  the level of observation of the photographer required to tell the difference goes far past the simple "watch out for cameras" that was easy to notice before the rule changed.

edit, 10-22-16: According to the many announcements I heard during the meet, video is apparently OK in the same locations regular photography is allowed (dealer halls and layouts as discussed above).  Glad to hear I won't be doing hard time for recording the geysers going off on the layout in Black Hall.
