Calling all around the world, are you ready for a brand new beat?  Wednesday is here, and the time is right for Midweek Photos… How neat!

This past Saturday at Steamtown National Historic Site in Scranton saw a very large crowd waiting patiently.  What was coming to the boarding platform is a train called the Heritage Explorer Train. An annual trip to a street festival in Carbondale, PA.

Power for the train this time is GP9 number 514.  Here she comes to the platform.

The train looks like it's ready to go on the DL&W route, which Steamtown normally takes.  But this train will need to get on the track parallel to the boarding track, and back onto the former Delaware & Hudson line.

Leaving the railroad yard, the train starts a downhill move to reach the old D&H. This particular track is called the Strawberry Hill connector.  On the left is the DL&W's former Diamond Branch.

The trainman riding the pilot is preparing to flag a crossing at the next street. (Olive St in Scranton.)

On the opposite side of the bridge where I was standing, the train keeps going

… and going.  This ends post number one for me.  I will also post some returning to Scranton shots.

OK, all the funnel cakes were eaten, and the train is returning to downtown Scranton.  The location is just where the tracks cross Lackawanna Ave.

Looking like a model layout from this angle at the Mall at Steamtown's parking garage.

This parking lot was once the Wholesale Block for Scranton, and at one time, a passenger station for the DL&W.

In a few weeks, we should see digging and construction work of the future Intermodal Transportation Center for Scranton.  The tracks will remain, so freights can still do their job delivering the goods.

The train is backing up to the switch so it can pull onto the Steamtown Runner track leading to the platform.  Philadelphia Suburban car number 80 pulls in on the trolley track.

Final arrival!  This was a lot of photos posted for one train - one trip.  What trips or freights… or even trolleys have you captured recently?  If you think it is worth sharing, please share here.  Have a great week, and happy photographing!

The date is August 12, 1978, a cab of Great Northern heritage on a northbound BN train is just about to clear the diamond at the Savannah, IL interlocking. After clearing the circuit, the tower operator will line up the westbound Milwaukee Road freight, the semaphore arm will rotate up to indicate a clear route. It will soon cross the Mississippi River into Iowa about a mile or so west of the tower. Dan

Here are a few shots I took in June for Trainexpo 2014.

1)  The fireman of the 1225 waits to for its turn on the turntable as the 765 pulls ahead.

2) The 765 and 1225 pace next to each other in the night.

3) The engineer of the 765 is awash with red glow when the firman opens the firebox doors.

4) The 1225 gets her turn on the table.

Here is a picture I took Monday of the Illinois Railway at Wedron, IL.  These engines are switching cars at Wedron Silica.  All the traffic on this former BNSF branchline is silica sand carried in covered hoppers.  Wedron is a very small town of about 100 people on the Fox River north of Ottawa.  I couldn't even find a restaurant or gas station in the town.
