I agree with Lee. Assuming their post is correct, this is a third generation, highly leveraged business. How many businesses do you think last 3 generations? And if they do, it's usually because they have a lot of equity in the business.

All businesses are not treated the same. Gx has many tax credit others don't enjoy. Such as paying no taxes. It is more likely the banks getting ready for a credit crisis and a rise in interest rates. The banks would rather pull the plug now. Possibly, recouping some losses from Government programs. In fact in some cases in may be the Government forcing the Bank to modify it's Business practices. So , everyone thinks the housing crash is over? Wait until interest rates rise to 8 - 8 1/2 percent. Maybe, even 16 percent. what do you think you house is going to be worth then? The storm is just starting. All the Government did was allow us to sit under the awning for a bit. Out of the rain.
Hopefully, most of the hobby isn't buried using credit.

Gentlemen and Ladies in the Hobby,
I would like to thank most of you but especially Bill Robb, Larry3railtrains,scottn941,AMC Dave, and Happy Pappy for your supportive comments.
I am a small business owner not involved with toy trains but involved with a three generation business. So, I know personally some of the perils involved....(.too many to mention).
I came to this hobby 47 years ago, when I was just a kid and forgot it when it was stored in my attic.
I am not involved in the HO hobby as I restarted (or rekindled) my interest with O gauge over the recent years however, when in LHS's in my area and visiting other areas Model Power displays and logos all over.......
When a business goes out like this it is something for us all to mourn, and remember with fond memories our childhoods and how this little company (that could) touched us.
We here thank you for all your years of service to our shared hobby!
Thanks again Model Power you did a good job! You WILL be missed!

I was trying to figure out why the store was by appointment only when I stopped by a few weeks ago while waiting for my Gf to be ready. Very sad reasonable n scale and ok models. I may do o and TT scale but still have their lirr n scale steam engines.

Well I think you may know by now that we bought a ton of their inventory. Their tooling (some of it) is going to MRC. They will be producing the Mantua line, buildings and more to start. Other tooling I can not comment about right now. We have a site with their product listed at up to 70% and more off msrp and call or write us for club or "BULK" pricing.

NOT their first venture into the business of model train locos and cars. If you are old like me and into N scale in the 1960's MRC had a number of steam and diesel locos and a string of cars. So it's coming back to model trains......
MRC's first customer was Nassau Hobby Center when owner Roy Gelber went door to door to sell his line of transformers and Tamiya Imports. Roy is still alive and well in his 90's and still owns the company.

MRC also imported some Om(meter gauge) Swiss trains back in the 90's.

Interesting! I had no idea! and I have N scale trains too!
wasn't alive in the 1960s though...still not really an excuse though...

They're also currently handling the JTT line of scenery material and if I remember correctly, they once were offering Athearn F7's with DCC installed.

MRC/Tamiya makes some of the finest model kits produced. The fit and finish is excellent and they're great to build. I wish they made O scale rolling stock kits.

Just to keep things clear.....MRC and Tamiya split ways years ago.......Tamiya does it's own distribution now out of CA. Agreed....great plastic kits....almost as good as Moebius!!
