LCCA Demonstrates New FasTrack Modular Railroad System at OGR Forum Group

The Lionel Collectors Club of America (LCCA) was part of the 10-18-13 OGR Forum meeting this past Friday at the York Fairground Grandstands. Lionel’s Bill Schmeelk and LCCA President Elect Al Kolis gave a brief demonstration about the new national, LCCA/Lionel FasTrack modular railroad layout standards.

This new Lionel FasTrack modular standard was developed jointly by Lionel, LCCA with input from other modular groups.  These new module sections are light weight, small enough to fit in the back seat of a mid-size automobile, yet can have large enough radius curved sections to run the largest and longest TMCC, Lionel Legacy line command controlled engines.  Everyone in the group can store their own module section, you won’t need make arrangements to rent a storage space or need a trailer to haul your layout to a train show.  The two piece 90 degree large radius curved sections (72” & 84&rdquo allow for various interesting layout configurations, from basic rectangular shape to  dog-bone, hexagonal, trapezoidal and allows for reversing sections.

This new LCCA/Lionel FasTrack Modular Railroad standard is simple; yet offers elegant solutions to issues experienced by modular groups today.  The tables are connected quickly by roto-locks (rotating locking mechanisms), there is no need for C-clamps.  Lionel produces a template that is available for purchase in their catalog.  This template will ensure proper alignment of the tracks, roto-locks and the drill hole patterns.  If you use the template and follow the standards, people can build sections anywhere all around the world and when they come together in the same location, the sections will fit precisely and function properly.

We hope this new national LCCA/Lionel FasTrack Modular Railroad system will allow people who do not have enough space in their home to build their own layout, an option they can pursue to participate and enjoy running their Lionel trains with other people.  Building a LCCA/Lionel FasTrack Modular Railroad layout is a great group project and can be a lot of fun.  Local groups all around the country (FL, TX, AR, CA, PA, GA, VA & NY ) are in the planning and building stages to assemble their own modular layouts.  The LCCA is offering module sections for sale in the Club Store section of our websitewww.lionelcollectors.org  If you are interested in building a group LCCA/Lionel FasTrack Modular Railroad layout, please contact me at agkolis@comcast.net.

We thank you all for attending this OGR Forum meeting at the York Fairground Grandstands in York PA. Thanks also go to OGR for inviting the LCCA to be part of this fun and informative event.

Here are some photos of various LCCA/Lionel FasTrack Modular Layouts from all around the country.  This standard was developed by a group from Lionel, LCCA, TW Train Worx, OGR and other LCCA members with modular layout experience.  It has several unique features such as roto-locks (no clamps required) light weight, can fit individual module is back seat of mid size car, large radius FasTrack curve sections can be split to create reverse loops (2 pieces make 90degree large radius curve).  Easy to assemble and take down.
