From Virginia??  Oh God, no.  LOL  This used to be a decent local show, held in a high school gym. It is absolutely nothing like Allentown.  The gym used to be filled a few years ago.  Last one I went to about a year , maybe 18 months ago, it was about 2/3 filled, if that, and a lot of that was just old, beat-up postwar stuff, parts, toys.

Put it this way...I live about 20 minutes away and I highly doubt I'll make the trip.

This show does not seem to be advertised very much.  I used to get a postcard announcing it, but not anymore.  Until I saw this post I wasn't aware it was this weekend.  Maybe that is part of it's problem.

As Mike said, a few years ago the room was filled but not the last couple of times.  Sadly I came away thinking that it wasn't worth the price of admission.

I live even closer than Mike and I can't think of a reason to go.

At this point in time even the big money train shows are not what they used to be. Greenberg's ( Oaks, PA ) this past weekend was mediocre at best. Dover and Wayne have faded out of the picture and the smaller shows have very little to offer. Allentown "Spring Thaw" (actually Winter frost-LOL) and Greenberg's at Edison are the only shows that I would still consider attending in this area. Many train shows used to be bristling with activity, but the audience got older, gas got more expensive, and the internet now brings easy shopping and products directly to your home. The times have changed.

I made several oaths to myself to never attend this show again, but gave it several second chances. I was there earlier this year and all I could think of was asking for a refund as I walked the few aisles. It just was not worth the cost of admission, let alone the bridge toll and the fuel. While on line waiting to get in at Allentown last month, the two fellows on line behind me were speaking about how the show's promoter got a lot of dealers to show up at the most recent event, but that time the customers stayed away. Apparently there was a lot of anger expressed. Of course it was second hand info, but it was sort of in line with my experiences.

In years past, this December show was the last chance I had to get myself a Christmas present that really mattered. Too bad.....

This show is not what it once was. It is run by a certain parts dealer and admission is as

much as the big shows like Allentown and Greenberg, and not even close to them. It's also

almost in upstate N.Y. just below the border. The next best bet is Greenberg in Somerset

on Jan 3rd and 4th.You are close to that one.

Team,

Agreed, the show has lost some / a lot of it's pull. More parts, mostly remanufactured for older units. Cost is like $7.00 to get in and with a coupon $1.00 off. I went last year because I had nothing to do. Meet a few NY Giants players with their kids.

It is right off the GSP exit in Montvale, NJ about 10 minutes from my home. It is not in UP State NY. It is at St. Joe's HS on Chestnut Ridge Road.

They need to beef it up - If your doing not doing anything and want to take a ride to Northern NJ do it. I will say that their is a N gauge layout that is really well done and nice.

If you are going to travel to northern NJ and want to see a very well done O gauge layout don't miss the NJHR show this Sunday. Definetly worth the trip and Santa will be there for the kids. free pics with Santa and well over 5 scale miles of track to stroll around. and we have stuff for sale also including the 2015 NJHR train calendar with proceeds going to the Shriners Hospital.

I drove up to this show a couple years ago from Maryland. The show advertised over 300 tables in the gym, cafeteria and hallways. There might have been 50 tables in the cafeteria and two in the hallway. I complained and got a refund of my entrance fee. I did drive into New York to a train store and up to Connecticut, but the store listed in my GPS had turned into a Mexican Restaurant.
