I recently took a gamble and purchased an MTH 2-10-0 Santa Fe Russian Decapod. It is a DAP model, MTH part #20-80008A. I bought it online with the intent to use it around my Christmas tree bucause i needed something to run on 042 curves, and all my other steamers are 4-8-4s and articulateds that need larger diameter curves. It came with no box or manual (hence the gamble) but the locomtive was great... Minus the weak sounds. All my other steamers are Much louder. Battery was OK according to DCS. So my questions are: 1st is there a different speaker that will fit in this small tender to help improve the volume of the sounds (yes i do have it turned all the way up on the tender) and if so, where do I get it; and 2nd where can i get a manual for this engine (i know i'll never find a box)? It is a DAP, so its not available to print off MTH's website like most are.

The manual should be very similar to other similar vintage locomotives with the 3/2T switching, so most of the info you need should be in the other manuals.  Obviously, you can contact MTH and ask about obtaining a manual.

You might be able to improve the sounds by changing the baffle on the speaker, otherwise I'd have to just search around for a better speaker that would fit.  I buy speakers from a variety of sources for my repairs and upgrades.

I would open the tender and inspect the speaker.  There are several causes of low volume.  One is a defective speaker, or one of the wrong rating.  Yours is a PS-2 3V engine so the speaker should be 4 ohms.  A proper MTH speaker will be plenty loud.  Maybe someone put an 8 or 16 ohms speaker.

Second is a bad battery or BCR that drags down the power supply.  Probably not in your case since the battery test was normal.

Last is a defective processor board.
