P32AC-DM

Dual-mode (third-rail equipped) version. It's only "correct" for the Phase III with Empire Service logo.

The other two below it should be numbered between 1 to 207, if the catalog designation of P42DC is to be believed.

They're correct in Phase V as well, the major issue is that the model itself is wrong. There are additional grills and whatnot on the dual mode locomotive not present on the model, not to mention the 3rd rail shoes and associated bits on the trucks. Its as if MTH is playing a funny joke on all of us, finally releasing this paint scheme again and then throwing 700 series numbers at it.

Sorry Clem! I'm in the same situation.

I have never seen one with such a  high number before and I ride in through the Chicago Amtrak yard each weekday so I was confused by the numbering and had to ask the pros.

You're all correct, the 700 series numbers are the P32AC-DM dual-mode units used in the northeast. Technically, all paint schemes are accurate for their 700-series offerings, but the model itself is based on the P42. So you won't have the extra/larger grilles on the back of the unit, or the third rail shoes, or the larger electrical boxes before the rear trucks that the P32's actually have. Also, the P32's don't have a door on the back of the unit, which the P42's do, so that may be another mistake. I agree, it's kind of odd MTH would offer the Phase V units in strictly P32 numbers. I get the Empire Service offering, that's cool, but most people would want P42 numbers on the Phase V's. Heck, even offering a couple P40 800-series numbers would be more authentic, as Amtrak rehabbed 15 P40's into that paint scheme several years back.
