Couldn't decide if I should post this in the MTH or Legacy Forum so I put it here.

In cooperation with Lionel the full version of MTH's app will be able to run Legacy engines in Legacy mode with features like quilling whistle. They haven't  decided which features would be included yet but I'm guessing the ones we use the most will be there. The full version should be out by the end of the year.

Kudos to MTH and Lionel

This is news I have not heard of before. Hopefully Barry B. will comment on this as to what is going on.

I would like to be able to run TMCC engine with DCS without the TMCC base.

You'll still need a TMCC or Legacy base. You cannot change the laws of physics. They both DCS and TMCC / Legacy communicate differently to their engines.

FWIW I've also heard this is the case with the DCS app. I suspected it was just a matter of time. Apps make this so much easier to accomplish.

Thanks for the information Marty. I only have one TMCC engine right now, so the expense would not be worth it for me.

Just had my DCS base and/or remote updated earlier this year.

YES, this is great news.  Already setup with both, now I won't  need to buy Lionel wifi module.  Which makes me wonder why LIonel would help out with this?

Any insight on this?

Well we don't know what it all involves so until the details come out there maybe some mutual benefit.  It's a little early to speculate without all the details but this should help folks buy more Legacy and DCS engines so a win / win.

Maybe things like the pfe reefer cars and the tmcc crane cars can get a dcs app control screen also. This is good news. Probably will be limited legacy control. I hope not,but we will see. One app that covers all products would be ideal. The new mth app makes running dcs so much nicer. Had two engines with ps2 back in the day. Never really invested in mth engines always went lionel. Now those and the new mth engines I just bought get run as much or more than all my lionel steamers. Mth has just as much bang for the buck as lionel. Most of thier street prices are lower than lionel. Only wish they would put the quilling whistle in all engines steam and diesle across the entire line. One more advatage to mth wifi is only one box is needed. Thier two way dcs  track communication with the engines means less devices to accomplish what legacy and sensor track are doing. Mth has stated with this new app technology they have just scratch the surface. Cant wait to see whats ahead in the years to come. Lionel and mth at least on the surface working to gether only helps us all in the long run. Thanks for sharing this new news.

Lionel put the legacy codes out there some time ago - that's how the Hi Rail app came to be.  I'm not sure there's anything here that required Lionel's "help" once they did that.  It was just a matter of time.  And I expect it might cost them an LCS wifi module purchase here or there but I'd expect at this point what it'll really do is sell more 990 bases and Legacy engines to folks who primarily had DCS and saw no point in investing in Legacy engines if they could only operate them in TMCC mode.

One would hope MTH might eventually reciprocate so the Lionel app could control DCS locomotives.  But I expect for the foreseeable future MTH will remain proprietary and the only thing that will control them all will be the full version of the MTH app.

Marty I agree that a legacy base would probably still be needed but using one app for both systems makes running a lot easier.

100% agree. I think it's a win / win for us end users. And this has to sell more trains for both.

Its a big win/win for those like me who operate both systems...  Let's not forget Legacy users will still need a MTH TIU along with a #990 legacy system to operate Lionel legacy engines with the Wifi module

I use the TMCC Base with DCS to run TMCC, Legacy (TMCC) & MTH engines.  I know it's still early but I'm guessing that I'll need to get Legacy Base to REPLACE my TMCC Base, DCS WIFI & the DCS Ap.  Am I on the right track?  (No PUN).

If you have legacy engines already you should get the legacy base anyway to unlock all the legacy features.  It's really a night to day difference.

Interesting. However, I'm more interested in being able to create MUs/lash ups with the app than adding Lionel product at this time.

I'm interested in if its possible to finally put both the DCS & Legacy controllers away and operate everything from everyone with one app/tablet.
