Hello everyone,

Last winter I hooked up the WIU to my DCS system....for the most part it ran beautifully and was a lot of fun.....the last time I ran my trains was in April sometime....so....last night I tried to fire up the layout and the DCS WIU connection  is totally erratic....engines getting kicked out from active in inactive list...many engines not being recognized...I get a few running and become hopeful and then they get kicked off into inactive....and keep getting "request failed" warnings...I have no idea what happened or what is causing this...very frustrating to say the least.... I can run the trains with the old fashioned remote just fine....but my eyes are going bad in low light and I really want to  use my iPhone to run things...I've read many other threads here....I have version 5.0 loaded into TIU....reloaded firmware 1.1 into the WIU ....can anybody verify that this code that I see In LuCI  means that 1.1 is installed?   It is:

Firmware VersionMTH WIFI DCS 20160107-1007 / LuCI mthdcs-v1.1rc1-1-gd26bd7d Release (git-15.205.28457-77acfe0)

Thanks so much in advance....Robert

I have a similar issue but it relates to the WIU no longer sending out an SSID and no longer talking to the TIU at all. Like you, I have both 5.0 on the TIU and 1.1 on the WIU. I actually brought in the WIU to my LHS for potential warranty service, having purchased it only last January, and am waiting to hear back. My TIU (Version L with the USB port) functions perfectly with the old remote. I had had my WIU "hard wired" to my router as a convenience and was using the MTH DCS network SSID with no issues. I even tried to connect the WIU to the TIU serial port in case something may have gone wrong with the TIU USB connection, but no luck there either. I have literally not touched anything but also had not run my layout for about 5-6 weeks before firing it up as well.

Unfortunately the WIU uses the 2.4GHZ wireless frequency band.  There are only 3 non-overlapping channels available and in most places there is a ton of interference.  I live in a lightly populated area and I still get some degree of interference.  You have 2 options:

Hard wired through an ethernet wire or you can try a 5GHZ adapter.  Of course, your WIFI needs to be able to support the 5GHZ connection as well.  I just ordered this from Amazon to try out:

I recently upgraded to a 5GHZ capable router and my wireless is significantly better as a result.

Many thanks for this information about the WIU broadcast frequency.  I did have my WIU hard wired as you mention and, when it was working, always saw that MTH SSID being broadcast from the WIU. Now that has disappeared. I'm basically dealing with two issues: an SSID that is not displaying itself and a WIU to TIU connect that no longer works. My suspicion is that the WIU may have gone bad and I am waiting for my LHS tech to let me know. I'll be happy when things are working again because I'm a big fan of the Wifi control. It's great.
