I just received my MTH Railking Imperial GE Evolution Hybrid in the new Cab no. 2014 Model 30-20258-1

As far as I know this is the first run of a new, un-catalogued cab number on this engine.

I was surprised to hear the Freight Yard Effect sound is quite different from any of my other MTH Diesels.

In short it's a fairly long exchange regarding a 'track warrant'.  Kind of cool, if not a bit technical with all the 'form, number, switch and repeat' dialogue.

I wondered if this was something new to this particular run, or has MTH been doing more authentic dialogues in PS3 or PS2?

This is a youtube post of the RK Imperial Cab 2010, that I watched before purchasing mine, and the more typical PFA dialogue starts at about the 5:40 mark...

This is a preview of the exchange from the MTH Product page for this engine (if it posts)...

It goes on quite a bit from there...

Also, just curious what others think of this type of PFA?

Thanks,

Robert

PS: Here's the full recording as captured by my phone...not the best...sorta muffled, unfortunately managed to stop the engine under the covered bridge when recording...

Picked mine up today at Nassau Hobby Center, lubed it, put in on the track and haven't looked back :-) The engine ran flawlessly.

It's the only engine I have with freight sounds so I have nothing to compare the sequence to.  I thought it was kind of "techy," although I have no clue if it's realistic or not.  I figured all of the guys who are into prototypical stuff might like it.

At some point I'll swap the sound file to one with passenger train announcements, I am totally not into realism with my trains.

Congrats Lionelbill! I'm very happy with mine too!  I also like your approach, I'm not much into realism with my trains either...anachronisms all over my small layout

Thanks for sharing that video ES44AC, and the horn on that version sounds awesome!

It is very cool   On the high setting the volume on this GEVO is really loud.

Thanks for the replies,

Robert

I have the same engine. I have noticed one slight flaw in the construction of it.

I did not notice it right away, however, once you see it, it is hard not to let it bother you.

The walkways on each side of the engine do not lie completely flat. They tend to bulge up a bit, especially mid way through the engine. I have watched some videos of this model and it seems that they too show some signs of not being even.

I took it apart in case it was a wire trapped under it causing this, however, I could not see anything under the shell. The walkway seems to be an add on piece and is a bit warped.

Anyone else notice this minor issue on what is otherwise a very nice engine?

I would like to purchase one of these engines soon but am a little confused....

Is this Railking Gevo....

30-20258-1
Price: $349.95

Any insight would be helpful..there are two different numbers...did MTH update the engine in any way?

I was thinking about getting one of these as well, but, like Gladstone, I'm now also confused by what the difference might be between the 30-20168 (cab no. 2010) that Charlienassau posted, and the newer uncataloged 30-20258-1 (cab no. 2014) that MakingtheGrade is talking about.

I saw some information which said MTH decided to do another run of the engines, an uncataloged extra, which is the 30-20258 cab no. 2014. Apparently the previous 30-20168 cab no. 2010 is still around and available, however. My guess is that the only difference may be the cab chatter recordings. Why MTH would change those, who knows, unless it would be for someone who would buy both engines and want some difference.

Personally, the chatter in the track warrant version (cab no. 2014) seems to go on excessively would get tedious to listen to again and again. On the other hand, the crew member talking in cab no. 2010 sounds like Lurch. Does that mean Gomez is at the throttle and it's going to crash?

The question is, what engine did you pick up, cab no. 2010 or cab no. 2014? Maybe you can look back and let us know. Charlienassau showed a picture of the earlier 2010 version in his post. You indicated that the chatter seemed "kind of techy" to you - is that track warrant kind of techy, or some other kind of techy?

Great video Spence!  The lights sucked me in on this one too!  Very cool

That's the only differences I could find researching them, different cab no. & chatter.

Not a bad idea for them to mix-up the chatter.  I couldn't resist picking up another SD70ACe Imperial set in the UP livery as cheap as they're selling, but I was pretty sure I'd get the same "Smitty" dialogue that's in my NS SD70.  If the Gevo's is a bit much on the technical side, the SD70's is almost too corny...but I still like 'em and love those SD70ACe engine sounds (min 2:00 for the chatter)...

One thing I noticed running the Gevo is there only appears to be 2 or maybe 3 speed step variations of the prime mover sounds, but that's running it with the DCS Remote Commander and not a full DCS system.

I have thw 30-20258 cab #2014.

These Imperial ES44OO Locomotives are impressive but I ran into this problem.  A friend of mine has the Southern Heritage unit which has operating Ditch Lights on the back deck of the engine.  I just received the Interstate version ES4400 with Ditch Lights on the back also but there is no wiring running to them and no bulbs.  The owner of the store, where I purchased the unit, had another engine and it also had no bulbs in the back Ditch Lights.  Has anyone else ran into this situation?

Strange. The one showing available at the Nassau web site is no. 20168, cab no. 2010.
