MTH has a non derail feature on their turnouts. If you approach a turnout with the points against you, the turnout throws itself.

I have a passing siding.  If I set the turnouts so they don't align to the same track, can i use the non derail feature to throw the other turnout?

This would allow the train to automatically travel on a different track on each pass.

First pass: Entry Turnout set for mainline, exit turnout set for siding.  Non derail activates and throws exit turnout to main line AND? throws entry turnout to siding.

Second pass: Entry Turnout set for siding, exit turnout set for main.  Non derail activates and throws exit turnout to siding AND? throws entry turnout to main.

REPEAT indefinitely.

I did something very similar to this, but I was using 2 reversing loops.

What worked was an old fashioned E unit. Tie the coil to an isolated rail

before entering the switch. Use the contacts to throw the switch in opposite

directions. Assuming a constant direction of travel, It won't switch every pass,

but will work on every other pass if that is works for you...
