Have several PS 2 engines and don't always rotate them frequently enough to keep them adequately charged.
Has anyone tried the battery chargers made by MTH and what are the pros and cons of having one?
Other suggestions that might work besides obviously keeping them charged with use?

I've been using one for years. An absolute necessity if you have a large collection of PS-2 locomotives. Zero drawbacks. Be sure you get the later version that has plugs for both the 9v and 3v battery packs. Some of the early ones only have one plug and won't charge the 3v units.

I'll second this! I purchased one the week they were announced and have been using it for years. Just remember to charge your models over night, i.e. at least 12 hours.
Can you charge MTH batteries with these chargers outside the train if you made an adapter to plug directly onto the battery, and if you did, would the battery over charge?

The old 9 volt batteries will charge on a standard NiCad charger if it has a 9v connection. I do that for the old units that don't have a built-in charger port. You can also get a charger port kit from MTH - it's easy to install.
Been using the dual port version for years, no issues.
It is way better then track charging the battery in an engine. Don't have to worry about power surges or brown outs sending your engine racing down the track at 75 scale MPH.
Another plus is that it won't tie up one of your tracks for charging the engine's battery.
I live in southeast Florida and our electric dips in voltage during thunderstorms a lot and also when a storm is in a nearby city, so the wall charger is a must have for me.

BCR
BCR costs are $25 for each locomotive.
MTH Charger is $15 for all the locomotives.
Unless you have a burning desire to equip all of them with a BCR, the charger is much more cost effective.
