Sorry to revive an old post but just noticed something very interesting on a couple of PS3 diesels. These are all new production - delivered within the past 9 months.

The engines are the PS3 Railking Imperial Evolution Hybrid

Scale F3 A unit (RTR Catalog)

With the smoke ON they will respond EXACTLY like the steam engine in the video in my original post. Very abrupt, rough.

Turn the smoke OFF (I don't use diesel smoke) and they are glass smooth. Slow, gentle stops.

Anyone with recent PS3 steam and a conventional operation able to test to see if the smoke being on/off changes the conventional coasting behavior?

Thanks.

It looks like smoke is ON in the video?  Does turning smoke off change the coasting behavior when you hit Direction?

Did you get a chance to look into my question from way back when?

Admittedly I don't remember. I sold the steam engine not long after I bought it. While it was a nice engine and ran well, I was so turned off by the deceleration in conventional issue (and MTH's response to the issue) that I couldn't live with it.
