Need Some Id and info help. I have a friends MTH  Santa  FE  engine, it has an engine #9112 on the side. WE have no paper work, am searching for info. It appears to be DCS or other remote. I'm not familiar with MTH. We are experiencing some trouble. The engine lights up but dose not move. I think it is locked in command mode as we do not have remote set up to operate it. We both run conventional and with out instructions; I can not reset it. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks You.

Looks like a 5 Volt PS2 engine delivered in 2002.  Probably needs a new battery, take shell off, if battery is white throw it away and buy a new 8.4 volt (green)battery and install it.  PS2 engines will not leave neutral if battery is bad.  They do not get locked in command mode.  Product number is 30-2281-1.  Go to MTH website, search that number and you will be able to see instructions. A picture of the bottom side would be more helpful.

I don't have the engine in my possession anymore, my friend had brought it with this afternoon, when he came for Thanks Giving Dinner. He had told me about it before and how it would light up but wouldn't run. After posting my question on here; I set it on my test bench and hooked up some jumpers. It lit up and I ran the throttle up and down a couple of times, triggered the direction lever a couple of times and then it started to go. It took off slowly and then began to pick up speed. So now back to the bottom of the unit, I did not see any switches but I did notice it had a charging port on one side, and some other adjustment on the other side. It was teal blue square with a white adjustment in the middle. Didn't know so I didn't touch it. Thanks for your help. Mr. Johnson I live in Rogers and the engine and my friend live down by Devils Den. I got your email address and may drop you a line. Pete

The teal blue with a white center is the volume control.  The charging port should be round, indicating the 8.4V battery. If the charging port is a white rectangle with two pins in it is the 3V battery but they did not come until around 2005 or so.  At any rate you will definitely need a new battery or a BCR.  Have a good Thanksgiving and good luck with the engine.  Probably needs some fresh grease and oil too. After all it is over 10 yrs old.
