Hi GUYZ,

I have a RAIL KING San Francisco PCC Car 30-2504-1.  I just put a BCR in it and I only get a ding ding when power is applied and a screech of the wheels when I put it in reverse.  I get no horn or announcements. Did my board go bad? Or do I just need a sound chip?  Can I get a replacement for this?  What parts would I need?  Thanks.

Did you try a Reset-18?  Did it work before the BCR installation?  It's possible you need a reset of the board, but I think that one is not one that scrambles with a weak battery.

Also, with a BCR, you have to bring the throttle up and then wait about 30 seconds or more before trying to do anything from a power-off condition.

Laz1957,

Do you have a P1 or P2 street car?   If you have a P1 and let the battery fail, you may have a big problem, I do not know if you can get the replacement board for the street cars or not.  If you do get her back up and she is a P1, make sure you keep the BCR in the street car to eliminate the board failure.

I would love to have a P2, Pittsburgh, Pa Street Car with Franks voice doing the announcements, myself.

Yes it is a PS1 model.  Is this how I would do a reset?

You need a transformer with a Whistle and Bell button  or at least the whistle button.

Place loco in the track and raise voltage to full.  Then cycle throttle from full to about 12V and back to full.  You will hear a ding.  Do it 4 more times you will hear a clank.  ding is 1 and clank=5 dings.  So 2 clanks and a ding = 11.  5+5+1.  Keep doing it until you get to the number you trying to adjust.

Thank you DAVE and JOHN.  I did the reset and did the 3 clangs and 3 dings, pressed the whistle button and it worked.  Ran it around and got the whistle function, bell works and the announcement works to.  All good just like before.  I haven't run this in probably 5 years so I had a extra BCR and figured I put it in and give it a go.  Thanks again guyz for your expert knowledge.  I'm get there in the knowledge department with this stuff a little at a time.  Again thank you both.

GGG,

That is good to know, maybe some the guys have replaced, could have been saved then.  I am glad he got his back on line with a reset, I really like the particular Street Car he happens to own, my buddy Franks does the Pittsburgh, Pa area station calls on that MTH Street Car.  I understand there is a P2 version of it also, would love to own it also.

hi john again Alan here, i took some of the connectors off of the proto2 5 volt board getting ready yo change out my proto2 3 volt board, while i had the 2 boards separated i found a shorted FET center leg to right leg, George confirmed that that was one of the FET that goes bad "shorted", do you think there is any other damage from this short and can i power it up with the fet removed to see if the rest works? thanks for your help Alan Mancus   Originally Posted by gunrunnerjohn:

The cycle is down below 12V, I typically go to 8 to 9 for my low.

Three clanks and three dings is the reset, when you hear that, blow the whistle.
