Hello, I have an MTH TIU REV L unit.  Does it need an update when unboxed from factory??  Or does it already have DCS version 5.0 already installed??  Because the remote had 4.2 installed and I just got done updating that one to version 5.0 and just wanted to know if the TIU unit already has version 5.0 installed on it.  I ask this because when I go into DCS Loader 5.0 software program and try to install the update for the TIU.  It says cannot connect to TIU.  I am using a USB cable plugged into the TIU and the other end into the USB port on my PC.  Does it matter if it is a USB 2.0 or 3.0 Port??  I have both kinds on my PC.  Says unable to recognize new hardware connect with USB or something along those lines.  Any idea how to get it to work right and update??  Thanks.

Yes, the remote was connect to the same TIU REV L.  I used a curly cord telephone cord.  No, I did not have a 1/8" Stereo audio cable connected to the TIU when trying to upgrade the TIU software.  Why would I want to plug in an audio cable, I am not trying to upgrade sounds or anything, just the software on the TIU.  Do I need to have the 1/8" cable attached??  If so, which ports does it go into?  The proto-dispatch (mic) or proto-cast port (Audio)?

ounce you power up the tiu with the RCA 3.5 cord connected as described above power up the tiu and then startup your loader program and choose to update tiu software, you will have had to already download the software from mth  http://www.protosound2.com web sight and choose dcs 5.0 download , save download to your desktop, it's the easiest way so you will find it after download ! i found the best way to download the dcs 5.0 is to right click on the file and save as target to wherever it is you want the file to download to. ounce you launch the zip file of dcs 5.0 it will create 3 files one for tiu one for remote 5.0 version.

now you can update your tiu as stated above with no problems!

MAKE SURE YOU FOLLOW THE ONSCREEN INSTRUCTIONS ON THE LOADER TO THE LETTER. otherwise you will have problems.

It should not take long to update your tiu. one thing if the dcs 5.0 loader does not find your com port do a search first from the loader program for the com port, then will work flawlessly!

Original Problem: "It says cannot connect to TIU."

There is a good chance that the USB driver that Windows needs to recognize the TIU USB port is not on your PC.  Search for a file named "CDM20828_Setup.exe" on Google.  Download and run it.  I've found that this (Windows) USB driver will recognize the USB port in the TIU.  The rest should work fine once the TIU is recognized.

ps.

"Why would I want to plug in an audio cable, I am not trying to upgrade sounds or anything, just the software on the TIU."... This, and many other mysteries in MTH programs are part of the arcane way that the MTH software team designs their stuff.... just my opinion!

ps.

"once you power up the tiu with the RCA 3.5 cord connected..." It's not an RCA 3.5 cord.  The required cord is a "stereo 3.5mm mini plug to stereo 3.5mm mini plug cord" also referred to as a "stereo 1/8" mini plug to stereo 1/8" mini plug patch cord"... Yes, connect between the two matching ports on one end of the TIU, just to do the upgrade. The on screen instructions will tell you when to remove the patch cord (which is before you do the remote upgrade - if you were doing one)

Ed;

Is it your experience that the USB driver you mention for the TIU USB port is normally on a Windows PC?

I'm wondering if this driver would normally be on a PC only for certain versions of Windows?

In fact, I'm wondering why this driver would ever be on a Windows PC without having taken explicit steps to download and install it!

If this driver is a requirement to use the Rev. L TIU with a USB cable, then WHY would it not be mentioned in the documentation for doing the software upgrade for DCS ver. 5.0?
