Don't know much about it, but it seems Atlas announced a couple years ago they were going to be doing S gauge, but in checking there is nothing in the 2014 catalog, so an Atlas S convention offering seems a bit odd. Just out of curiosity, are they doing S gauge with any vigor?

Sure wish they'd do that Soo reefer in O.

The cars were made by Mike's Train House. They arrived in MTH's new red white and blue boxes. As far as I know Atlas has nothing to do with them.

Though Atlas entering the S market would be a good thing. Though I doubt they would. The market is small.

I am not aware they made any announcement about doing anything in S. Has anyone else heard of this?

Atlas has no interest in S.  I'm pretty sure they've got their hands full with O, HO and N.

The reference to Atlas in connection with these cars brings to mind some observations I've had in the past.

In a conversation with Don Thompson of SHS some years ago I commented that I thought the SHS Extended Vision Caboose in S and the Atlas Extended Vision Caboose in O looked remarkably similar right down to the onboard people inside the caboose.

I believe the guy drinking coffee is in both cabooses:

S.....

O....

These pics don't show it clearly but I've seen it up close.

Anyway Don said he had designed the posed figures and the builder "repurposed" them elsewhere so to speak.

So, I guess all this rambling poses the question are the builders able to offer the same product in scaled up or down versions from the same models?

Is the builder of the Atlas O models the same as the SHS models and now MTH?

Just speculatin'...

Mark

Pretty sure SHS and Atlas O came out of the same place back then.

I once talked to Don about offering the EV caboose with the standard cupola, like Atlas O has, it would widen the appeal of the car (not that it was lacking.)  He said that the tooling wasn't set up for it, but sorta wished he had considered it.

I ordered mine from Charles Ro and the website said they were in stock. Today I got an email saying they were back ordered, but the order confirmation included in the same email still says they are in stock.

Many years ago, Ro cancelled a back order that I had, with no explanation and no notice to me. Hopefully this is not the case again.

RoyBoy,

I preordered mine from C.T. McCormick Hardware.  You could try checking with them to see if they have any more available.  Good Luck!
