I have a z-4000 that is approximately 10 years old.  It probably has only 5 hours run time on it.  I set up some track to run an engine that I recently got back from MTH repair dept.  I noticed that the whistle and bell buttons are reversed on the transformer.  Press the whistle button and the bell rings.  Press the bell and the whistle blows.  Also the right side of the transformer that runs track 2 is dead.  Pull the lever and nothing reads;  no voltage or amps.  Any suggestions?  There can't be much to the transformer.  Has anyone had one apart.  I'd like to be able to fix it myself if I could.   All I need is another repair bill.  Appreciate any help I can get.

Yes, the Z4K does look like a simple transformer. Well, it's far from it. The Z4K has many functions built in. It is more computer than transformer internally. Your best bet would be to find a qualified MTH Service Tech. If that's not possible let the folks at MTH's Service Department take over. That may be your best option. It's cheaper than buying another.

I own one of the earlier Z4K. More than likely the same as yours. I've had a few problems since new. You will not regret searching out a good service tech.
