Do you have two separate loops?? If you only have one loop I can see both handles cancelling out each other or possibly you have one side of the Z with the wires crossed. That happened to me when I moved My Z's to a new shelve. On one handle I reversed the wires and when I turned that handle on it was shorting out. But going in order to use both handles you have to have your loops separate. I have earlier versions of the Z4000's and when I turn the handles off I have never shown zero I have always had some kind of a low number showing but the power was off............Paul

Gentlemen,

Remember on some of the 1st generation Transformers, they never completely zero out the voltage on the screen, they can be adjusted but it's really not worth the effort or money expended to zero them.   I own one of these older Z4K Transformers, this might be his problem, however I have never seen a Z4K that Bleeds one channel to another, if this is actually occurring, and is not a wiring problem, do not use the transformer until it is repaired.  Make sure you have your wires connected correctly!
