I just bought a Z4000 here on the forum.  It arrived with a problem with the left throttle handle.  The handle makes a screech sound when it is moved up and down and the movement is not as smooth as it should be.  It seems to be a plastic on plastic sound.  I've tried the tension adjustment screw on the bottom and that does not fix the problem.  The other handle operates fine.  The electronics seem to work fine too.

Does someone know of a fix for this...some way to lubricate it maybe?  I don't want to start opening things up (if at all) without some guidance.  Thank you.

You'll have to take the cover off and adjust the potentiometer bracket that engages the gear on the handle. There are 7 3mm hex screws on the bottom and the top lifts right off but only so far as there are cables connecting the circuit boards in the top to the ones on the bottom

Thank you Matt.  That was a big help in getting the cover off.  This is a picture of the gears.  It seems the smaller one is not in proper alignment as the one on the right handle is.  I don't see an adjustment but maybe I'm missing it.  Would silicone lubricant help here do you think?

The metal bracket gets bent then the teeth don't mesh together. You can take the POT off the bracket or just the gear off the POT and bend it back. If you over bend it a bit then it will keep tension on the gear. I had to do it to one of mine, I don't remember how I did it but it worked great

I too have this issue with my Z-4000.  I posted several weeks back asking for advice and had no reply, so thanks Matt for your good information and thanks KAI for the post.  Matt (or any forum member) is there a way you can post KAI's picture and insert a pointer as to where the POT is and how it is removed to correct?  I haven't opened mine up yet, but would like to have a good idea of what I should be looking for to when I do.  Thanks again.
