My New Nathan's Hot Dog Boxcars/ Videos Added

I'll have mine with chili, nacho cheese, mustard, and onions.  YEP!!!  And a root beer.

The world's most famous hot dogs are from Nathan's in CONEY ISLAND, NEW YORK CITY, Borough of Brooklyn - definitely YANKEE!! 

 

So-called red hot dogs are an abomination! Kosher dogs are the best!

Sure enough .... I quickly went to Nassau Charlie's site ... and they're gone.

I was raised on Gulden's in Brooklyn and Queens, NYC.

I like my dogs boiled in beer with a chopped up onion and a handful of mustard seeds. Put them on a steamed bun with either chili(no beans) or mustard and  a couple slices of tomato.

We once had a restaurant here in Nashville, TN near the Vanderbilt campus called Lum's that served hot dogs boiled in beer and they were GOOD! Sadly they are long gone! 

They are nice cars.  Congrats on getting them!  I saw them last year at York and they sure did have a premium price on them.

My vote in the mustard sweepstakes. This stuff is so good I order it online so always have some ready.

 

Very nice, but Nathans is for New Yorkers.  As a Chicago guy, I'm used to Vienna or Ball Park hotdogs.  Jumbo chardog with everything on it, easy relish, with sport peppers.  I prefer a poppy seed bun, but they are hard to find these days.  I went to a BBQ to a guy from Jersey's house and he kept raving about Nathans.  I thought they were skinny and tough.  I guess it's what you're used to.  Enjoy!

Alright Spence, I'll bite. I told my wife the title of your topic and her eyes lit up. We always have Nathan's in the freezer.

 

When we went to NYC a few years ago we made the wonderful subway pilgrimage to Coney Island for the sole purpose of visiting Nathan's, the center of the New York hotdog universe. It was a great day! We rode the Q from end to end at 57th. (route has since changed)

 

Now I'll have to look for that car.

I'd like my two Nathan's reefers to be trailed by a hopper full of knishes. 

That's right Dave! Coney Island......Nathan's was near the Stillwell Ave. subway station. Sometimes on a summer night the family took a ride to Coney Island to have a Nathan's hot dog. A car ride was a 20 minute ride away .

Nathan's hot dogs and ******. Nothing better!

Ketchup on a hot dog!  Say it ain't so!  I used to work at hot dog joint named Luke's in high school.  That was a trip, but staying fairly on topic. There was one guy who used to come in on a slow Sunday afternoon sometimes.  He would always get a hot dog plain, nothing on it.  That's almost as bad as putting ketchup on it.  After awhile he would come in and when he stepped up I would call out, which is what we did normally, 'naked weenie!   I'm not sure he appreciated that.

Gasp! No mustard?!?!?!? Say it ain't so!

 

I like mustard, a LITTLE ketchup, and relish on mine. I'm personally fond of Hebrew National myself since places to get a GOOD hot dog are few and far between out here.

This thread is really making me hungry for a Nathan's hot dog.

only ONE Nathans in all of Chicago all the rest are Vienna. But we do have Sea-hawk green glowing relish! And absolutely no ketchup!!

 

 

OH, now we're talkin'.  Yes, Nathan's are really good, but Vienna Beef - Wow.

 

There was a place in Lancaster near the station called Hot Diggity Dog that served them in various ways.  Awesome Chicago dogs.

 

Unfortunately, it is out of business. (And I've never recovered...)

Just got off ebay. No Lionel Nathan Hot Dog Reefer Cars for sale. The last one sold for $169.00. Seems a little on the high side of the price range.

    I am going to have to use the watch list, a look at local train shows. The thing about model trains, it is all about the timing.

What a coinsidence!  Not only did I pre-order two of these cars, but we had 1/4 pound Nathans hot dogs while watching the Super Bowl (with Guldens mustard of course!).  Made them on the grill before the snow arrived tonight!
