I used Lionel track because I had a lot of it already.  I hadn't thought about using Marx track, but you're right, since I love collecting old Marx metal engines and 6" metal cars and I'm using old Marx electric switches, accessories and even the transformers are vintage Marx, then I should be using Marx track.  I would love to collect other Marx buildings, vehicles and people, but the prices always seem higher than I'm willing to pay.  Perhaps I'll think about changing the track to Marx.

Here is how I added an electromagnet to the overhead crane.  I removed the electromagnet from a Lionel 6019 uncoupling track.  Underneath the crane base I attached a 2 cell AAA battery box.  A miniature toggle switch and LED was added to the roof of the crane cab.
