Ok, I just finished looking at the MTH 2014 vol.2 catalog. Did Norfolk and Western have a blue E-8 and blue passenger cars??
Thanks for your help.

Yes on the E-8. Ex-Wabash engines.

The N&W's mergers of the Wabash and Nickel Plate ushered in its "blue" era.

Many thanks guys!! It is going to be a must have on the layout.

I am sure you'll be seeing those K-Line jade green E-8's for sale now.
You're right, Chas.

Dumb question, but having spent a while looking for images of the jade green NYC E-8's, what did NYC pull with them, gray passenger cars, stainless, freight?
I would guess stainless by that time, but I don't know for sure......and I believe a lot of E8's eventually hauled freight.....but whether that was in the NYC era or PC era, I don't know for sure either.
I'll try to look it up late......Penn Central Power is one of the objects on my list for this York.

From what I've read, the color was nicknamed "Pevlar Blue". Someone said it started to fade as soon as the paint gun was turned off.
Herman Pevler was the president of Wabash Railroad before he becoming President of N&W. Pevler oversaw mergers begun under Saunders which brought into the N&W fold the Nickel Plate Road, the Wabash Railroad and portions of the Pennsylvania Railroad. The mergers were completed in 1964.
Coming from the Wabash, he was the first N&W president in the 20th century to have not come up through the lower ranks of the N&W, and his leadership was met with some resistance by some N&W staff. Among his legacies was a change in N&W livery on locomotives to a blue very similar to that employed by the Wabash, which became known within the company as "Pevler blue."
Pevler Blue was not well received and it did fade like crazy.

The NYC Century Green (not properly "jade") locos were done at a time when the Central
was experimenting with new colors for esthetic and durability reasons. They painted
some gray - the keeper - and some black, plus the green ones. All were in the Cigar Band lettering, as this was the time that the road was moving away from the expensive-to-paint Lightning Stripes.
There were 3 green NYC E's - the 2 E-8A's and one matching E-7B (a Williams E-7B
and green paint project if I ever heard of one).
There was nothing special about the green units; NYC pulled the same things with them
as it did with all the other E-8's (and so forth). They were passenger locos, so they pulled passenger trains, primarily.
I love my K-line greens, and I don't use DCS much, so mine will not be going up for sale.
The Century Green color survived as a Penn Central (and Conrail) rolling stock color.
I got beat up a little on the MTH Catalog thread when the question came up about N&W "owning" E-8's. In my mind, I was thinking "bought" and wasn't considering mergers in 1964. I was 7 at the time and admit I was wrong to a point.
Wabash did own 14 E8A's numbered 1000, 1003 - 1015. N&W kept 5 (1000, 1006, 1008, 1012, 1015) and renumbered them 3800, 3806, 3808, 3812, & 3815. There were no "B's".
The ABA set does look nice, but it would have been more accurate if MTH had just offered this as a A-A set. Better yet; a single A with a matching set of passenger cars and I probably would be pre-ordering right now.

I typed Pevlar vice Pevler, knowing it's plastered all over the internet both ways.
I wonder how many of us only think of "bought new" (without really thinking of it) when looking at a new purchase? Seaboard owned a number of steam engines that were originally owned by other RRs (GM, WM and CNW come to mind), that were acquired thru direct sales or mergers. I bet some engines that have been offered for the original RR are available and could be easily modified/repainted to represent the RR of our choice.
ALSO all five of the renumbered Wabash to N&W E8a's had twin headlight. The lower in door had two horizontal clear beams. The upper on nose two vertical, a clear over red beams. Not sure if this upper one was a Mars lights. If the MTH catalog image is correct then model NOT faithful to prototype.
Anyone remember the MTH re-badge N&W / ACL E8s in Poke Juice purple and N&W lettering? Had a chnce to get a set in Monroeville years ago, and missed out. Too bad, as these guys looked awesome. AFAIK, they never did the RF&P version, which would have been just as nifty...maybe more so !

Nope, I didn't know that. I would be up for one of each provided they were offered as a single "A" unit.

FWIW, I sent a suggestion to MTH to offer an uncatalogued set with a single N&W E8-A with the blue passenger cars. I'll let everyone know if I get an answer.
