Need advice on adding fatboy speakers in a Lionel SD-80 Mac (dimensions)

The fatboys are 50mm(~2"), but I believe they are only available in 8Ω. The baby fatboy is 16Ω and 8Ω. 40mm.

I am not sure of height. The height would the issue. You would have to wire them differently, in series. you should find them wired in parallel.

Is this a LionMaster TMCC?

two baby fatboys will give you nice sound and not need a rewire.

Carl, this is a scale unit 6-18297. your correct on originals being 16 ohm 2 watts. These have the highwater fuel tanks and I can lower them a bit I believe with plastic strips to make them look more scale. Do you know the height of the baby fatboys by chance and the diameter is around 1-3/4" I figure?

The height is one dimension I don't know. Perhaps someone will add that detail. The 50mm FatBoy is 2" in diameter, but you have to consider the mounting ears.

You don't really have to consider the mounting ears if you cut them off.

Can I order these speakers from Lionel?  Or do I need to go through a repair center?  I want to see how they can fit into various projects.  They certainly look more substantial then many OEM speakers I see in locos.  Thanks!

I just checked the Lionel parts list and found they use the 630-8155-536 baby fatboy's in the superbass units. I wish I could get the height of these.

Well I removed the fuel tank this morning to see how they mounted the speakers. These speakers are 3/4" tall and the way the tank is mounted they may just might go in the holes in the frame but not by much. The holes in the frame are 1-1/4" diameter. Like I said I want to lower the fuel tank some anyways.

I wonder how many different fatboy speakers Lionel makes?
