Matt,

When the battery dies, the engine's memory as to its address and settings drops out and you have to re-add it to your remote.

A more accurate answer is:

"When the battery dies, the engine's memory will no longer accept changes to its settings. If you change the engine's DCS ID# while the battery is too weak to accept the change, then you would have to delete the engine from the remote, charge or replace the battery, and re-add it to your remote."

DCS Book CoverThis and a whole lot more is all in “The DCS Companion 3rd Edition!"

This book is available from many fine OGR advertisers and forum sponsors, or as an eBook or a printed book at OGR’s web store!

Thanks Matt.

David.  The reset kit is reusable so if you have any other PS1 engine it is a good thing to have and is not expensive.  It only comes with one battery though.  Or you may want to change out the batteries with a BCR from J & W Electronics.

Dennis

Agree w/ Dennis with the BCR .

BTW, The man to always pay attention to is Barry Broskowicz!

If the reset chip can be used on other PS1 locos, does this mean that the chip does not permanently stay in the loco once it is running again?

Correct.  You follow directions and replace battery with new charged one in kit, power up with Make PS Chip, get two dings.  Power Down and wait 30secs.  Remove chip and place original back in and power up.  G
