At a recent train meet I purchased a diode to replace the rectifier on my RW transformer whistle circuit.  Now that I am ready to do it, I cannot find the wiring diagram the vendor gave to me on how to wire the diode into the whistle circuit to replace the rectifier.

Does anyone have a diagram I could use?

Thanks much and Happy Holidays,  Jim Lawson

Some folks have experimented with using Zener diodes. According to what has been written here, when a Zener diode is used, the resistor is left out.

However, if you are using a standard diode, you need the resistor.

I have not tried using a Zener diode yet. The next time one of my own transformers need a repair to the whistle control circuits, I may try one.

Just put Zener into an RW this morning, and, yes, the resistor is no longer needed.  Works great!

For more info on this subject (including profuse illustrations of a NAKED RW transformer (!)  see "Sex and the Single Zener Diode," elsewhere on this forum.

Have fun!
