Problem with Dummy A unit of the Lionel 6-34701 Legacy AA Shark Nose set.
I accidentally severed a wire connected to the lights in the front of the dummy A unit. I easily soldered the wire back together and insulated the joint with heat shrink tubing, but now I do not have legacy control of the unit. By “do not have control”, it means I cannot turn the smoke unit on and off, can not turn the headlights on and off, and I lost directional lighting when I reverse the direction. The light on the rear is always on, as are the number boards and red marker lights in the front.
I am using a Cab1L controller and base
The lights cycle normally with direction when run in conventional.
The smoke unit responds to the smoke on-off switch under the fan housing
The cab light goes off when it starts to roll in either conventional or Legacy (as expected)
The wire that was severed was the right hand most of the four wires going to the connector in the nose. I did not just sever the wire, I pinched it and trapped it in the mounting post. So when I first turned on the power, I got a dead short.
Yes, I know this was stupid
It was working fine before I severed the wire.
Things I have tried
- I have tried physically removing then re-inserting the radio board
- I made sure the antenna wire is secure at both end
- I have tried the reset sequence: “switch to program- call up engine ID – press set- power off- switch to run.”
- I tried Aux 1, then 0 on the Cab1L
The powered B unit, also running Legacy, works fine.
I have not contacted Lionel, as I have done extensive modifications to this unit (among other things, converted it to 2 rail) and I am concerned about shipping and handling. Not to mention having them work on a two rail locomotive. If I have blown a radio board, can I get a replacement?
Any advice?
Thanks
