I am in the final planning stages of a Standard Gauge layout. The photo below is NOT the finished layout. However, please take a look at the back to back switches on the bottom. For those of you with a healthy arsenal of engines and all sizes of cars, do you know of any equipment that will derail on such a configuration?
The switches will be working vintage Lionel 222s. Thanks!

Can't speak for Standard Gauge, but s-curves have always given me troubles in O gauge. There's a way to achieve what you want by replacing one of the curves on the inner loop with a switch, and a straight on the outer loop with a second switch, that lets you avoid an 'S'. But, you may have to make some custom length straights.
Follow up: I just tried the largest car I have thru the back to back switches (State car Colorado). Ran just fine. The truth is these switches will be feeding on and out of a smaller loop and I won't be running anything too large in that inner loop. It will be for smaller engines and 200 series freight at the largest. (Tried a string of 200 series and the ran thru fine.)
You will have issues with large gear super motors and some flyer roller pickups. Also it is very hard to back anything thru "S" curves.
