Wow, that never has happened to me. Many times I'll start an engine on the loop under TIU 1 Control and park the engine several runs later on TIU 3. Weeks later, it starts right up. Most all of my engines are on TIU 5, however; they were all added through TIU 1.

Maybe the difference is that you are not in Super? Everything I have is in that mode.

Thanks

Moke Mike

No  we're operating in super with 4 tiu. This is a well know issue with 4.2.along with the scrolling issues.  both have been fixed.  yes you can shut down the engine but if you power down the layout for the night the engine  can't be found the next day,.

Slight correction    If the engine ended up in the inactive list it  would not come out.

Not exactly. The bug DCS 4.10/4.20 bug was that this happened only when they were in the Inactive Engine List.

Yep, You're  right.... I corrected my post but in the mean time you beat me to it.  Good stuff.

Not on my layout. That seems like a issue that would be covered in Barry's O gauge companion. I've never heard of it before and never experienced it either. It sounds so cumbersome, someone would have brought it up in a handbook by now since 4.2 is been out for five years. I'm really stuck on the issue you're talking about as I've never experienced it on my layout.

You say it's a well known problem, however; I've never read about it nor have I ever had the problem on this layout? I run 16 trains at the same time during a train show. As each group leaves, if there is a big enough break, I'll shut the engines down wherever they made be. Same thing happens at the end of the Saturday show and on Sunday morning at the beginning of each train session. it's unlikely that the train will ever be on the same TIU it started from. If it were an issue I would always park the train at the same location every time I shut down.

The issue you described is not on my layout or I would certainly know what you are referring to since I would have to be more diligent in where I parked trains, especially overnight. Can you find the issue discussed in the O Gauge Companion? I would like to read it for informational purposes in case someone asked me about the problem you're describing, so I may help them with the issue.

Yes I made a mistake, I should have said If engines ended up in the inactive list...

Version 4.30 Fixes

  • Previously, if a PS2 or PS3 engine, when operating in a Super TIU environment, is made Inactive and is then attempted to be made Active, it would not come out of the Inactive Engine list unless it was on a track connected to the TIU with which it was last associated. The workarounds were either to perform a READ; delete and re-add the engine; or physically move the engine to a track connected to its associated TIU.  This issue has been corrected. The engine now is able to be moved out of the Inactive Engine List and also to be made active.
  • Previously, ”ENGINE ERROR" would result when attempting to add an engine that had the same DCS ID# as a lashup that was already in the remote.  This issue has been corrected. The engine now is able to be successfully added to the DCS Remote.
  • Previously, when operating in a Super TIU environment, increasing or decreasing speed by turning the thumbwheel faster than very slowly could cause speed to go change in the wrong direction or not at all.  This issue has been very much improved.
  • Previously, the time that “Out of Range” and “Engine Not On Track” messages were displayed was very long, as was the time that the remote locked-up while displaying these messages.  The time that these messages are displayed have been considerably shortened.

I never ran across this issue because 95%
of my engines are always on TIU 5. The loop
that has TIU 1-4, only has two or three trains
on it at one time. It's just a loop around the
entire layout about 210'. Everything else has to be
on TIU 5 which is three levels worth of track.

I read about the time being shortened for displaying
the message forever and locking the DCS remote
and the new version is a welcome change.

I tried to post a photo of my layout to the Forum, but
after downloading Windows 8.1 last month, I can send
photos to My Documents, but they don't get there.

Also, I can't download photos or contacts from I phone 5
to my laptop after Windows 8.1. I'm going to call
Microsoft Monday and they will help me as I purchased a 1 year
Microsoft support contract. It was the only way to get
Windows to install. I don't have high speed internet
and the download took do long it was corrupt.

Thanks for the "quoted" material and info.
