NETTE Auctions owners charged with multiple felonies

A major Marx collector, and a really nice guy, has his collection "sold" through this outfit, upon the recommendation of the estate's lawyer.  I bid on a few sets, and what l received was not what l bid on, so l bid on no more.

??Another one of THOSE!!??  What you want to sell is not what I want to buy!

This article makes me real angry.  I had a chance to meet Mr James Hall and his wife Colleen.   It was a member of this forum that put me in touch with James as I was considering entering into the world of SG. James and his wife Colleen invited me and my wife into their home to share his collection and knowledge about Standard Gauge trains. It was a wonderful experience....the awe of entering into that train room was amazing. Most importantly they were amazing hosts and just wonderful people. I actually posted on this forum about my amazing experience when I returned from the visit. To see that someone took advantage of them (and others) frustrates the heck out of me.  I wish James and Colleen (and others) nothing but the absolute best as they deal with this devastating situation.

Are the auction company owners members of TCA?

If they were, they were quite likely thrown out (or such an action is in process - though I can't imagine these people would be caring much about TCA membership status with the felony counts they now have been formally charged with).

There was a simple email sent to members (I'm paraphrasing based on memory here) when this situation was first brought to light regarding TCA severing all relationships with this business.  I assume that would mean on a personal level of memberships as well, but I'm not an authority to say.

It's a shame. They were a good auction house for many years. Not sure what happened to change their disposition. I liquidate collections, or advise families looking to do so, and have recommended this firm in the past with no complaints, but it seems things went bad in a big way.

Don's TCA number goes back to 99, I thought there was another partner, Mark, but he must have got out of the business at some point in time.

I'm not sure if Mark was a partner or an employee, employee I think.  He was the auctioneer and the train expert.

Thanks for posting Chris. I believe TCA put out an alert last year on these guys, I would have to go back and check

Well, good news I guess if Mark was not part of any of the trouble. He's the only guy I ever dealt with there, and met him a few times when we both had tables at the NETCA show. Always seemed like a good guy.
