SIRT,

If the new Atlas Passenger Cars are anything like the older Atlas Master Class  Rolling Stock, the detail will be just fantastic, the 2 Atlas Wellsville, Addison & Galeton (WAG) Box Cars I just picked up have some serious detail on them, very glad I could get my hands on these Atlas cars, to add to my layout.  Got to admit, like you I wish Atlas would make more than 2 road numbers of this particular rolling stock, I would definitely like to purchase more of these Atlas WAG Box Cars.

Supplied Atlas with some details and suggestions for a more closer look.

As with most of the non-specific cookie cutter cars, they can get close but no cigar.

I hope they decide from a sales stand point to supply additional coaches in several numbers.

Maybe they will do a better job than those other guys did.

The Atlas catalog says the coaches will have four numbers and the RPO, Baggage, and Combine will each have two numbers. That will make for a nice sized consist.

Thanks, I didn’t see the fine print so that's good news.

The catalog photo shows one coach as # 8512. That’s a P71A ex MEC BRADLEY. Not even close.

Since these cars are inaccurate anyway, I suggested using something between

1406 to 1415 from the MP54AT car series. Close enough I guess. Those were blind motor / trailer cars retired in 69. I don’t believe these will have painted end port holes since they are a different car design.

They will probably look more like the blue band RK heavy weights with no blue band and different trucks. The window posts and door windows are different as well.

The Dan logo will have to go on the lower panel as shown in the catalog due to the extra windows.

The location will be incorrect but like I said, it’s a different model design.

Don't really need anything other than coach cars for the LIRR.

I try to avoid any type of passenger (sets) or fantasy cars.

The car should really look more like the #1401 in the B & W photo.

Hi Ron, I think GGD did some in the PRR undesired color once.

Actually IMW has everything for the LIRR fans, but they are all 2r including ARCH ROOF Ping Pongs.

Their shells require a lot of cost and time to convert and complete plus they are a bit rough unlike real OEM's.

Atlas cars will most likely look more like the HW MTH style.

I did modified one MTH MU by removing the head lamps and painting port holes. This is how the Atlas cars should look. The only thing I didn’t do was cut out all the end doors, add a brace across the door windows and change the number to a 1000 series.

MTH could do this as version as well to complement their RS diesels, but they don’t really care or know I guess. Sales would be worth doing them as converted MU trailer cars.

Finally the Atlas O T-Man LIRR (3) coaches arrived today.

Had to add some grey to the steps and also paint the grab irons on two cars getting ready for the W.F. Nice green glowing LED’s as I remember the cars to look at night. The photos didn’t capture that hue very well. Looks like Lionel LIRR C-420 owners can finally run some commuter cars now. It’s been a long wait. I would say not bad for cookie cutter coaches.

FYI on the Atlas O Trainman passenger cars –

Well I’d have to agree with Ben as I believe he once said these cars had problems. I was hoping they were corrected.

The 3 cars never made it around the inside track. First cars roller started sparking and fell off while shorting out to the axle. I had to fix the out of box failure on another car as the coupler was flopping about. Looks like the assembler never set it into position properly. Had to remove it completely.

I also discovered they are too light and bind up traveling in or out of O36 curves. So I will have to run them on the outside O54 curves and add some metal weights I guess? There’s no way they would be trouble free on 2 rail, they are just too light. Looks like Atlas didn’t test these very well. At 85 ea. these are definitely not worth buying. Quality and design make them junk in my opinion. Un painted areas as well. No more overpriced Atlas for me.

Hope you guys have better luck than I did.

 S.
