Have noticed within this last year in Cedar Rapids and other areas, Canadian National has be upgrading crossings. Streets with crossbucks are generally getting flashers. Major roadways with flashers are upgraded to gates plus the city is adding center dividers so drivers can't drive around gates.
Wondering if other RR are starting to do this (albeit expensive) upgrades? In one respect with gates (and conjecture on my part here), if a driver does get through and scratches up his car and hit with train, the damaged gates would have incriminating car paint evidence, driver (if s/he survived) can't whine "I didn't see the signals".
